How fire stringent safety regulations improve the fire performance levels of home furnishings
In a recent study of the South West Research Institute (SwRI), San Antonio, USA, it has been shown that in realistic room burns, furnishings from the United Kingdom, which have to meet high fire safety requirements, lead to flashover after more than 20 min and to less smoke development compared to furnishings from France and the USA with low fire safety requirements already reaching flashover after 5 to 6 min and developing high amounts of smoke. The high fire safety U.K. upholstered furniture contained the most fire-retardant protection.
